The required age verification system could restrict anonymous internet use and put vulnerable groups at risk. Critics also worry the bill could be misused to censor LGBTQ+ content, potentially targeting topics like gender-affirming care, abortion, racial justice, climate change, or anything deemed to cause kids "depression" or "anxiety."

KOSA's journey is far from over. It still needs to pass the House, where it faces opposition and immediate legal challenges. The debate around balancing online safety and privacy rights is set to continue as KOSA makes its way through the legislative process.
